Mountain grassland restoration using hay and brush material transfer combined with temporary wheat cover

چکیده
Mountain grassland restoration success may be hampered by limited seed dispersal and poor soil banks of many species. These constraints can overcome actively introducing propagules from nearby non-degraded communities. We tested different techniques in order to understand the mechanisms favouring target species seedling recruitment establishment. In five degraded mountain grasslands, we analysed (i) effect two increasingly used ecological low dispersal: transfer brush-harvested material hay transfer, (ii) potentially facilitative a temporary plant cover (common wheat) on transferred propagules. found that both propagule were successful establishing donor community with an increase richness, abundance Hay was more efficient transferring than transfer. Brush-harvested only increased when sown together wheat. The results indicated mulch favoured species, without needs compensated additional create favourable conditions for recruitment. A comparison best reference communities each confirmed brush wheat sowing driving composition towards desired state. conclusion, grasslands shallow stony soils clearly benefits dead (hay) or living (wheat) vegetation cover.

Prairie hay meadows are important reservoirs of grassland biodiversity in the tallgrass prairie regions of the central United States and are the object of increasing attention for conservation and restoration. In addition, there is growing interest in the potential use of such low-input, high-diversity (LIHD) native grasslands for biofuel production. The uplands of eastern Kansas, USA, which pr...
متن کاملBVOC fluxes above mountain grassland.
Grasslands comprise natural tropical savannah over managed temperate fields to tundra and cover one quarter of the Earth's land surface. Plant growth, maintenance and decay result in volatile organic compound (VOCs) emissions to the atmosphere. Furthermore, biogenic VOCs (BVOCs) are emitted as a consequence of various environmental stresses including cutting and drying during harvesting. Fluxes...
متن کاملAn assessment of grassland restoration success using species diversity components
1. We do not know which aspects of community structure and ecosystem processes are restorable for most ecosystems, yet this information is crucial for achieving successful restoration. 2. We quantified three success criteria for 8–10-year-old grassland plantings in largescale tallgrass prairie restoration (reconstruction) sites relative to three nearby prairie remnant sites. The restoration sit...

متن کاملUse of temporary filling material for index fabrication in Class IV resin composite restoration
When a patient with a fractured anterior tooth visits the clinic, clinician has to restore the tooth esthetically and quickly. For esthetic resin restoration, clinician can use 'Natural Layering technique' and an index for palatal wall may be needed. In this case report, we introduce pre-restoration index technique on a Class IV defect, in which a temporary filling material is used for easy res...
